AXC 5 RESOLUTION

On Saturday, January 2nd, neither the cold nor a local motor cross race down the road stopped MMA fans from AXC 5. We were all treated to eighteen action packed fights at the Cullman Civic Center, including two title fights.

Fight one featured Jessie Fowlkes against Anthony Moore with Fowlkes holding his own in round one. Round two had Fowlkes eating a left hook which lead to Moore winning by TKO.

Fight two had Trevor Read battling Josh Garner in a heavy weight bout. Read showed impressive knees in the clinch and a solid ground game.  Read catches Garner in an arm bar forcing Garner to tap.

Fight three was Nic Sanders and David Voss in two of the four heavy weight fights of the night. In the fight, it remained even until Sanders slipped down and Voss capitalized on it, winning by guillotine choke.

Fight four was Steven Lollar against Lucas Elliot. After a Lollar knock down, Elliot was able to end the fight with a rear naked choke submission.

Fight five was Robin Mclamore versus Steven Spiegel; he took his back and gets the win.

Fight six had Russell Coleman fighting Roy Woods. After a Woods takedown leads to his victory by referee stoppage.

Fight seven had Butter beans son Brandon Esch fighting Josh Edwards. Unfortunately his night ended early with a shoulder injury, giving Edwards the win by referee stoppage due to Esch’s injury.

Fight eight had everybody talking with Doug Trotter beating Alex Ganey by knockout in an AXC record time of four seconds.

Fight nine was Jonathan Riley fighting Landon Aaron. Landon had his way with Jonathan and choked him out by rear naked choke.

Fight ten was another heavy weight match with Matt Ford squaring off against Bobby Thomas. Bobby slapped on a guillotine choke giving him the tap out win.

Fight eleven was Cody Southwood against David McAffee and after they both were swinging for the fences, David knocked down Cody and ended the fight with him putting on the rear naked choke on Cody giving him the Win.

Fight twelve had Will Maxwell versus Steven Krigger. The fight went two rounds and after Steven “brought the pain” by ground and pound, Will gave his back leading Steven to the win by rear naked choke in the second round.

Fight thirteen was Fear None’s Jonathan Abad taking on Daniel Avery. Abad took Avery down and rained down the punches making the referee stop the fight.

Fight fourteen may have been runner up as fight of the night. Wesley  Dunlap and JJ McGraw went the distance and Dunlap came up short as the judges gave McGraw the win.

Fight sixteen was Cory Fowler fighting Bradley Johnson. Fowler showed off his quick hands landing several strikes to Johnson. Johnson hung on through the first round but fell by TKO in the second round due to strikes.

Fight seventeen was the Co-Main event for the bantam weight title. As predicted, Andy Fike won by submission in round two over Nick Collins.

The Main Event was also the fight of the night. The Welter weight strap was vacated and we had to have a winner between hard hitting Jack Whitfield and Travis Goode. Both fighters threw bombs and landed, but Goode took everything Whitfield had. Goode eventually got the win by TKO (strikes), giving him the stap Former champion Bobby “Buckshot” Baker, wants to redeem his fear none team mate and will challenge Goode at AXC 6.
